2020 in Review: What’s Next for the Art World?
Dear Friends,
With the end of the most unpredictable year in sight, I wanted to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Christmas and send every best wish for a happy and healthy start to 2021, when I truly hope we will be able to see each other again in person.
This is the first edition of a quarterly newsletter. The focus will be on the state of the art market, artists to keep an eye on and what is to come. This is my analysis and unbiased advice. I err on the side of supporting and working directly with artists and galleries because the primary market is the core of the sector. Nonetheless, insight into the overall arts ecosystem is only complete if we consider the secondary market and the not-for-profit as well.
7 Highlights of Frieze Art week: New Commissions, Exhibitions and unmissable Auction Lots before you even hit the fair
Frieze week launches London’s autumn art calendar in full fanfare. Beyond Frieze Art Fair, the city unveils heavy hitting institutional exhibitions whilst commercial galleries and auction houses bring out their big arty guns. Below are my highlights for the week ahead. Stay tuned to my Instagram account for daily updates on these and other exhibitions and, of course, for the fair highlights later in the week!
Highlights: 72h in Art Basel
Art Basel. Mecca to contemporary art trailblazers. The one and only art fair that is a must in the calendar. The one and only art fair able to attract the best international art galleries and artists, substantial parallel programmes taking place in private foundations, public venues and museums and boutique alternative art fairs.
4 to Collect at Paris Internationale
It is Paris art week. Inaugurated 44 years ago, FIAC is the classic afternoon tea affair whilst, in its third edition, Paris Internationale is the bloody mary on the grunge rooftop of a multi-storey car park. Paris Internationale art fair brings together a young generation of 55 galleries and 8 project spaces from 17 countries. With a sense for the surreal and body awareness, these are my highlights.
3 to Collect from Frieze Week
I have chosen three artists who are ’emerging’ into the market for very different reasons. These are my three picks from Frieze London, Frieze Masters and Sunday Art Fair.
Art Basel in 72 Hours
The emerging from LISTE, the established at Art Basel and the museum exhibitions of Kunstmuseum Basel. At the fairs, I have prioritised those artists I haven’t spoken about or featured yet on the blog. These are my highlights.
