After a week in the sun, I have charged reserves for the next couple of chilly months. I crave the Mediterranean light daily and Miami was a great alternative. Miami’s bright blue skies and the light bouncing on period architecture and palm trees was a dream to my English winter. There is a garish side to the pastiche of the 1920s and 30s pastel Art Deco façades mixed with Spanish roof-tiled villas and mid-century architecture. But Miami does white and understated too. Walking along South Beach streets, the stark white buildings jump against a dense blue sky, pastel geometry and blocky neon typography. This city has the balance of allure and grunge. Please please please could a TV producer set a contemporary Dynasty series here?
